There are two types of people when it comes to making goals.
- Those that aim low because they don’t want to be disappointed if they don’t achieve more
- Those that dream so big because, why not
While we are busy with our tasks and working on hitting our smaller goals, we are leaving so much untapped potential out in the world.

In creating this blog, I had an idea of what it would end up looking like. It was the best I could think of at the time. I’m not a website creator, so it wasn’t going to look like other blogs I had seen. You don’t know what I had in mind but just know THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER. I have to laugh at myself now, because from the start I wasn’t dreaming big at all.
I felt like I couldn’t dream huge because of limitations I placed on myself and barriers I created.
Ultimately, to dream bigger than you are now, you must get out of your head. Get out of your comfort zone. Those two elements can keep you trapped and right where you are at.
Focus on the Future
To have a large dream, you must know where you are headed in the future and plan out how to get there.

Like the example I gave earlier, I knew where I was going but I hadn’t really created a plan of action. I didn’t know what I could figure out and what Brandon was capable of in creating this amazing project. So, I settled for less.
To get over the settling, do an assessment of:
- What your skills are
- What skills you need to get to where you want to be
Things you can do to develop the skills that you need
- Look at people you know who might be willing to show you the ropes
- Look at online courses
- Check out YouTube
- Read blogs
- Attend a class
To achieve a large goal, you must be willing to put in the work to grow yourself and your skills. You can get there, but it isn’t going to be overnight. Take the initiative and push yourself to success.
Give It a Try
To get out of your head and push through the barriers you’ve created, you need to get out of your comfort zone and just give something new a try.
When it came to blogging, I had an idea that I wanted to do it a long time ago, but I had no idea what it would be like or if I would be able to do it. I wasn’t ready to just start a blog and see if it worked out or not, and I didn’t even know what I was interested in writing about! So, I found some ways to practice this new style of writing. Through that process, I was able to learn more about finding my voice.
It’s scary to try new things because chances are you will run into some hiccups, but you don’t get closer to your goals without the bumps in the road.
Find smaller projects around you, at work, church, organizations you belong to, or just in your personal life that you can work on to help you test out what you can do. If it’s blogging for example. You could volunteer to contribute to the newsletter at work or church. Take every opportunity you can find to practice your writing and get it out there.
Give Yourself Permission to Fail
Chances are, you don’t know everything you need to know to reach your big goal. You won’t until you start the process of making it a reality.
Maybe, when you first start, you will fail in some areas or things won’t go exactly how you planned. It’s OK!
Don’t give up just because it gets hard, and it will.
I like to think back to where I started and take notice of where I am today. When you start to work on something that really matters, it’s going to change you as a person. Your skill set is going to grow so much along the way. If even a little piece of the plan is successful, the impact will be great.
The Take Away
We won’t know what we can do until we try. Now is the time to jump right in and dream bigger!

Setting big goals can be scary because there is a chance, we will hit setbacks and failure, but it’s all part of the process. We need to get out of our own heads and comfort zone. Remove all the barriers that we’ve placed in front of ourselves.
