Week 4 of 13Phase 1: Get clear

Your one line, and the day-30 check

The read (3 minutes)

Four weeks in, you have an inventory, a sharp target, and a story. The last step of phase 1 is to compress all of it into one line you can carry anywhere: what you want to be known for. It's the answer to "what do you do" one level above your job title, the line that goes in a bio, a profile headline, the top of a review. It comes last because you couldn't write it honestly until now.

This line is the tool the rest of the program runs on. You can't be visible for, connected around, or build a case from a value you can't state in a sentence. Phase 2 puts this line in front of the right people. Phase 3 turns it into evidence. Get it right this week and the next nine weeks get noticeably easier.

Then you take stock. Today is roughly day 30, the end of phase 1, and you score the same four statements you scored at the start. Don't expect every number to have moved yet; clarity moves first and the others follow. The point of the checkpoint is to see what phase 1 changed before phase 2 begins.

This week's moves

115 min

Write your line, today. One sentence, under fifteen words, no buzzwords. Use script 1. Draft three versions, keep the truest, not the most impressive.

215 min

Put it where it works. Use the line in one real place this week: your profile headline, email signature, bio, or intro (scripts 2 and 3).

310 min

Day-30 score. Take the same four-statement score you did at the start and set the two side by side so you can see what moved.

Script bank

Word for word, ready to use. Edit any script to make it yours, then copy it.

1.The one line

Option A: "I help [who] [outcome]." Option B: "I'm the [function] who [the distinct thing]." Under fifteen words. If it reads like a job posting, cut it down.

2.The headline version

Strip the line to a profile headline: "[Role] | [the distinct value] | [where you're headed]."

3.The spoken version

When someone asks what you do, say the line like a person, not a title. "I help [who] [do what]" beats "I'm a Senior [X]."

Friday debrief prompts

Your Friday email carries the reply template. These are the prompts inside it.

  1. Your one line, final version: write it here.
  2. Where did you put it? Be specific. "I'll update my profile" is not done.
  3. Day-30 score next to your baseline: which statement moved most, and which hasn't moved yet?

Your self-score: Day 30

Score each statement from 1 (not true) to 5 (true).

I can say, in one sentence, what I bring and exactly what I'm aiming at in the next 90 days. (Clarity)

Re-entry note

However many weeks of phase 1 you finished, write the line anyway (move 1). It's the tool the next two phases run on. Phase 2 starts Monday with a clean on-ramp.

Print this week (one-pager + script cards)

Phase 1 done. You got clear: what you bring, where you're going, the story that connects them, and the line that carries it. Phase 2 makes the right people see it.
